Family Friday for September 20, 2019

Dear friend,

Before I share this week’s Family Friday Favorites I wanted to announce that the winner of last week’s giveaway with Samantha of Flor de Azahar Calligraphy (the artist who made my logo) has been chosen! The winner was notified directly and her prizes will get to her soon. Thank you to all those who participated and for your readership, love, and support! It really does mean so much to me.

For this week’s Family Friday Favorites I am excited to share some music with you as I haven’t shared any music for Family Fridays yet! I hope you enjoy!

Mat Kearney

When I was a senior in high I desired to learn more about my Catholic faith. I decided to join the youth group at my church not only to learn about my faith but to find community as well. It just so happened that my senior year was the first year that our parish got a National Evangelization Team (NET). After meeting the team I wanted to spend all my time with them because I thought they were so cool! One of the team members who loved music recommended Mat Kearney to our youth group. I started listening to his music and really enjoyed it. So much so that Mat Kearney soon became one of my favorite musical artists. The next year when I went off to college Mat Kearney was scheduled to play a private concert at my school. I was ecstatic to say the least! I went with a group of friends who had never even heard of him. That didn’t stop me from singing along to almost every song that he performed. That concert is still one of the most fun concerts I had ever been to. Mat Kearney even wrote a song for our college because he enjoyed his visit so much. It is a fond memory and I haven’t stopped listening to Mat Kearney since. From my understanding Mat Kearney is Christian and he is rather well known in both secular and Christian music communities. He actually began writing music in college when he was moved by the grace of God and the message of redemption. That being said most of his lyrics are clean and family friendly, which I really appreciate. There are just a couple songs that I decide not to listen to (like the song Memorized) because of my preference in lyrics. Overall though his music is amazing!

My Current Top Five Favorite Mat Kearney songs:

  1. Ships in the Night (one of my all time favorite songs)
  2. Face to Face (his wife is in this video with him)
  3. Heartbeat
  4. Air I Breathe
  5. Sooner or Later

My Favorite Mat Kearney Album:

My favorite album by Mat Kearney is Young Love (not the deluxe version). I like almost all the songs on this CD. The first song that I heard by him was Count on Me, which is from this album.

More music by Mat Kearney:

If you are interested in listening to more of Mat Kearney’s music I created a Spotify playlist with all my favorite songs of his. If you are interested in checking that out you can find it here

A little over a month ago I asked those following me on Instagram for some positive and uplifting song recommendations. I got a ton of wonderful feedback! So thank you to all those who told me some of their favorite upbeat songs. I wanted to let you know that I am still working on that playlist. So stay tuned. In the meantime if you have any song recommendations please feel free to share them with me! I am looking for clean lyrics and an upbeat feel to the songs. Thank you so much!

Have a great rest of your weekend and know you are in my prayers!

With love,

Nina
